Existential Crisis, Rise of Violence and Emerging Antitheses: A Psycho- Social Study of Globalization Shahnaj Parvin Lecturer, Department of English, City University, Dhaka, Bangladesh Email: shahnajshammee@gmail.com Abstract Alongside the advantages, globalization, nowadays, is creating a global crisis making a person borderless, hence rootless, and throws him into an existential crisis in his personal, social, cultural and economic life. This paper is a quest for the emerging antitheses of globalization as, Hegelian dialectic suggests, the antithesis remains within the thesis. This quest will also focus on the fact that globalization has turned into a thesis and reinforcing the existential crisis along with the fear of losing identity, inherent in human consciousness, especially in the context of a borderless arena, brings about violence and paves the way for that antithesis. This research is qualitative in nature. Unlike the previous works that chiefly focused on contents and discontents of globalization this article will analyze the phenomenon of globalization from the perspective of Hegelian dialectic. It will simultaneously consider some elements of globalization as responsible for creating existential crisis, hence the rise of violence. For this, the article has examined the philosophy of existential crisis, the biological and psychological bases of human being to respond to something, some recent examples of violence and, most importantly, some major ‘broken promises’ of globalization as well as its impact on the society as a whole. In conclusion, a glimpse of synthesis has been shown as a probable solution to the crisis which could be the subject matter of further research.
